Resource London, in partnership with the North London boroughs, held a workshop on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in waste management, for London boroughs in July 2016. Boroughs were provided with an un-biased view of the ICT innovations currently in the market.

The following topics were covered

  • bin weighing technology
  • route optimisation and fleet optimisation
  • real-time tracking and reporting
  • bin fill rate sensors

The benefits and limitations for each topic were explored and practical working examples discussed. Participants also debated whether an informal ICT networking forum, or similar, would be useful for boroughs. Officers from WRAP, Westminster City Council, Enfield Council and Islington Council concluded by presenting case studies.

The write up containing notes from the workshop should be read in conjunction with the presentations.
